In response to the ongoing violence and unrest in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas during the panchayat polls and various other reasons, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken a significant decision to address the situation. She has ordered to bring Bhangar under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police.
Bhangar has been marred by violence throughout the electoral process, from the announcement of the Panchayat election schedule to the nomination phase, polling day, and even after the declaration of election results. Governor CV Anand Bose personally visited the area as the violence escalated.
Recognizing the need for decisive action, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directed the establishment of a new division under Comissioner of Police Vineet Goyal to better address the challenges in Bhangar. The move is aimed at restoring peace and stability to the region and ensuring the safety of its residents.
Notably, Mamata has consistently shown pride in Kolkata Police and their capabilities. In recent remarks concerning the deployment of central forces during the state's panchayat polls, she praised the efficiency of Bengal police officers, hailing them as "competent and smart".
As the new division comes into effect, the state is taking proactive steps to tackle the unrest and create a safer environment for the people of Bhangar. The move underscores the government's commitment to maintain law and order and foster peace in the affected area.
